So as I've talked about here and there, I'm trying to take action more when it comes to those that need help. You know, to whom much is given, much is expected...I believe that and I think that falls on most of our shoulders here in the U.S. of A. Anyway- this isn't preaching. I'm simply sharing what I am working on lately so I have record of it and if you happen to be encouraged or inspired to get going too- even better.
I want to give of my time for sure- and I'm still working through the upfront requirements to be a teen mom mentor- but in the meantime, I realized I could at least give support in the form of funding. So, I started giving to Sole Hope.
The cool thing about Sole Hope is that it serves a very specific and real need: shoes for children without...but it also gives work to adults in the form of shoe-making services. You can give a one-time donation, a monthly donation, and/or you can have a shoe making party- which I am super excited about doing.
Secondly, we are sponsoring a child from World Vision. Here is something I didn't realize- if you don't want to commit to sponsoring a child- they have a whole page of "gifts" you can give via one-time donations. Did you know that $35 provides over $350 worth of medicine for children who are sick and in need? Pretty amazing. I think we spent that on pizza last week.
Or you can spend $25 and donate two chickens to a family so they can have fresh eggs! Talk about teaching a man to fish instead of giving him a fish...
Or are you more entrepreneurial? You could provide small (meaning very micro) loans to individuals trying to start their own business and earn their own living. You can invest as little or as much as you want and follow the progress of the business.
So many cool options I didn't know about, so really I'm just trying to share the information. I think that 2014 will be the year where we visit Singapore- because Katie is there- and/but I'm hoping 2015 is the year I go on an international mission trip. I'd like to go to Africa. I'm thinking I might bring a little one home with me. I know it's not that easy- but it's something we talk about quite a bit.
Anyway, that is what is on my mind...and my heart...and I know these are little ways to give...but, as a wise man once said:
